Israel Strikes Beirut and Southern Lebanon After Large-Scale Evacuation Orders

Israel launches major strikes on Beirut and southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah, with at least 3,213 killed since the war began.

Israel launched a significant military operation against Beirut and southern Lebanon, targeting what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure, after issuing large-scale evacuation orders to civilians in the affected areas. The strikes marked a further intensification of the conflict that has devastated parts of Lebanon since fighting escalated months ago. The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Lebanon, Agnes Dhur, warned that the ongoing hostilities were creating 'conditions that are untenable for civilians' and risked 'long-term consequences' for the country. The humanitarian toll has been immense, with at least 3,213 people killed in Lebanon since the start of the war according to official figures. Residents in the port city of Tyre described scenes of panic and fear as evacuation orders were issued. Rida, a 52-year-old resident, told reporters that 'people packed up their stuff' and that 'everyone is scared,' capturing the sense of helplessness felt by civilians caught between the warring parties. The strikes came amid broader regional instability, with the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah threatening to expand the scope of the Middle Eastern crisis. International aid agencies have repeatedly called for a ceasefire, warning that the humanitarian situation in Lebanon is becoming increasingly dire as hospitals, infrastructure, and civilian areas sustain damage from the ongoing bombardment.
